PATH's Malaria, Neglected Tropical Diseases program is a leader in the effort to end malaria illnesses and deaths, refines and develops tools and approaches, invests in national programs, and builds data to empower national governments to pursue malaria elimination.
PATH seeks a Regional Clinical Officer for the United States Government (USG)-funded Reaching every at-risk community and household with malaria services (REACH Malaria) global project. REACH aims to provide implementation support services and technical assistance to countries to accelerate progress in comprehensive delivery of life-saving facility and community-based malaria services including malaria case management, prevention of malaria in pregnancy (MiP), seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), maternal and child health services including immunization and nutrition, data collection and use for service delivery, and other malaria prevention interventions.
The malaria Regional Clinical Officer will report to the Chief of Party and is responsible for providing comprehensive technical support to health facilities, health care workers and communities to improve the quality of malaria case management services at supported health facilities. S/he will be responsible for providing technical support including regular mentorship and supportive supervision and training to health facilities to improve the quality of malaria diagnosis and treatment practices at project sites.
Responsibilities:
Provide regular mentorship and supportive supervision to health facility staff including health posts and health centers on malaria case management
Coordinate with district health offices and respective regional health bureau the planning and implementation of malaria case management support packages
Provide technical assistance for regional planning, implementation and monitoring of malaria diagnosis and case management activities at respective regions
Assist development and/or review of support tools such mentorship checklist, job aids, desktop references, SOPs to be provided to each health facility to support the improvement of malaria case management practices.
Conduct baseline assessment and follow up tailored support to each health center and health post on malaria diagnosis and case management activities.
Contribute to the revision of training and onsite orientation materials and conduct the onsite orientation and offsite training at regional laboratories, districts and in-service training centers
Provide comprehensive support including the distribution of essential job aids, guidelines and manuals as well as case management commodities to health facilities
Assist in the design of quality assurance program for malaria case management and facilitate its implementation at the supported health facilities
Provide technical support to regional health bureau in preparation for any emergencies such as malaria outbreak, disasters such as floods that aggravate malaria cases, etc.
Participate in the regular regional technical working group meetings
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Required skills and experience:
MD with at least two years of experience in clinical practice.
Experience in malaria case management program implementation is an added advantage.
Experience in conducting clinical mentorship, supervisions and training
Experience in development and review of documents related to malaria case management services
Ability to work in team with good team spirit
Computer skills (Word, Power point, Spread sheet, etc)
Willingness to travel approximately 80% of his/her to supported health facilities
